Starting May 27, 2025, automatically created assets will begin upgrading into AI Max for Search Campaigns settings as "text customization" for all campaigns. Learn more About AI Max for Search Campaigns (beta).
- If you’re new to automatically created assets, turn on AI Max at the campaign level. Turning on AI Max will turn on text customization by default.
- If you’re already using automatically created assets, you’ll find a banner in your Google Ads campaign settings prompting you to upgrade to AI Max. You can choose to:
- Do nothing: The legacy automatically created assets setting will continue working as usual outside of AI Max, but you won’t be able to use AI Max.
- Opt out of legacy Automatically Created Assets: This turns off the current automatically created asset setting and allows you to switch to text customization in AI Max.
- Upgrade to AI Max: Opting into AI Max allows you to use text customization.
Note: Activating or deactivating AI Max may cause errors for API requests managing automatically created assets and brand settings in your campaign, as AI Max is not yet available in the API and Editor. Inform your team before proceeding with either action. Additional details can be found in our blog post about AI Max for Search campaigns.
Text customization is an opt-in, campaign-level setting that is available through AI Max for Search campaigns. Enabling the setting will help you generate additional assets (headlines and descriptions) to be used in combination with the assets you input for your responsive search ads. These new assets are generated based on your ad's unique context, which includes your domain, landing page, existing ads, and keywords in your ad group. In some cases*, text customization can use generative AI to help you generate assets that are more relevant to people’s search queries.
*Advertisers with English assets are eligible.
Ensure your website content is accurate, not misleading, and not in violation of Google Ads policies or applicable laws. After you turn on text customization, you can monitor your ad content for accuracy in the asset details report.

Benefits of text customization
- Performance: Increase responsive search ads performance by automatically creating more headlines and descriptions.
- Relevance: Provide a consistent user experience across query, ad copy, and landing pages.
- Productivity: Reduce the amount of manual work to create relevant ad copy.
How text customization works
For responsive search ads within campaigns where you turn on text customization, you instruct Google to help you generate assets from eligible sources based on relevance and predicted performance. When your ad is eligible to serve for a query, responsive search ads will use the pool of eligible advertiser-created assets and Google customized text assets and serve the combination predicted to perform best. Google customized text assets will be reflected in your responsive search ads Ad Strength rating.
Language support for text customization includes English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Japanese, and Dutch.
Advertisers with English assets are also eligible to have Google customized text assets produced with generative AI.
